canada doesn't have one and home ownership rates are higher than the us. great britain had one, abolished it, and it had little effect....

on ownership. there are other countries without one (singapore, australia, et al) that have higher homeownership rates than we do. essentially, there's pretty much no real evidence that it has much effect on real estate at all. the money is priced into into the cost of homes now, and it's pretty likely if there were no deduction that houses would just be cheaper.
