My daughter has her first date, *and* first dance tonight.

She told me about it last night. I'm kinda floored. She had a lot of trouble making friends at her old school, but seems to be fitting in well at this public school.

Here's how the conversation went:

Hannah - I have this thing I'm going to tomorrow night.
Me - What thing?
Hannah - A dance for school.
Me - Whoa. Really?
Hannah - Yes. you don't have to take me, or pick me up. They're gonna do that.
Me - Wait, they? Do you have a date for the dance?
Hannah - Yes.
Me - Who is it?
Hannah - Courtney.
Me - (floored) The girl with the crutches and the half-shaved head at the bus stop?
Hannah - *laughs* Yes.
Me - So, a real date? You like her?
Hannah - Yes.
Me - Oh, wow. That's a surprise, but good.

We talked a little after about it. She says she likes boys and girls. I told her the normal "I love you no matter what" things, and that if anyone bothers them at the dance to let a teacher (then me) know.

My girl is growing up!
