We were there only for a week on business, so we didn't venture outside Sydney.
The Olympic Park is technically walking distance from the Ferry, but I'd take the subway. It's a long, dark walk if you go after the sun goes down. The subway stops right there but there's not much there other than the plaza.
We took the ferry over to Bondi Beach. It's a nice little area but it's more to say you've been there more than anything else.
I agree on the rec for the food. I would try kangaroo while you're there. It's a red meat and is pretty tasty if you don't mind a little game in your meat.
