especially the Germans get worked up about it to a really high degree, and that comes from the fact that they thought the US was a frend that did not try and get all data from everyone and the fact they *know* much better then anyone else in Europe almost what state survailance means it scares the crap out of them in much deeper way than many others understand i think
Angela Merkel grew up under stasi "rule" the german President Gauck was an desident and under Stasi survailance too and later became the director if he "Gauck- behörde" that deals with the old stasi records someone that thinks thoose people will react with coolness and unemotional on stuff like that is pritty much naive
