As someone that travels fairly often I'll disagree with this. Carry-on baggage is a pain in the ass. Dragging it around the airport.

Security. Dragging it around during layovers into the mensroom or restaurant or Starbucks. Fighting for over head bin space. I always check, especially since the business is paying the baggage fees.
