Also i already have a mandatory carryon ( work laptop) and maybe a second bag ( work scanner and usb second screen)

The scanner wont fit in the same bag as the laptop, but the screen will. The scanner isnt always required though.

Most of the hard cases i have looked at are expandable. The hard part means they have a sheel of extruded plastic or something similar. -- nm

I have a work provided backpack bag for the laptop, i can probably get the second screen in it with normal carryon stuff, the scanner wont fit
