Cloud Atlas question for the readers. In the book, how did they show.....

That the different characters were the same people in different eras?

In the film, though it isn't always immediately apparent, you can eventually tell that this guy is Tom Hanks, and this guy is Tom Hanks, and this guy, etc.

How do they show that in the book? Just wondering.
