What amazes me consistently is that Republicans are really winning in most of these cases but they don't know when to accept their victory.

They've gotten to where Obama is appointing candidates that are unobjectionable to them. They're that moderate. But because they can't accept that victory as being enough they've overplayed their hand to the point where Obama now has more leeway to appoint more liberal candidates. It's the same generally with the conservative tilt of the government. They succeed in tilting the playing field, but they always want more to where they finally start turning people off. These are not subtle lines here either that could be misread. It's been pretty clear to most clear thinking people (including in their party).
