I really think the whole 'restricts' thing is overblown. I've never had problems finding an app to fit a need with the Kindle

I no longer have a Fire but I know that I did have problems finding certain apps and ML has said the same thing *shrug* -- nm

The Kindle/Nook are cheaper which is why I'd suggest those over a Nexus as a reader, FWIW.
