The speed limit on the curve where the MNR train derailed is 30 mph. The portion prior to the curve is 70 mph.

NTSB says the train was going 82 mph.

there is usually signage and/or signals to indicate speed restrictions, plus I'm pretty sure you need to qualify on any particular section of track
