FWIW - my dad had a Secretery embezzle just under 10k - he didn't report, but did have her pay it back. Took a long time, but it was the right thing

To do - they remained good friends - though no longer worked together - even to this day she remembers him with great affection - claims he was her best boss. She doesn't know I know about it.
