at the beginning of the load when I'm adding the detergent? Or do I have to wait until the appropriate cycle? I'm assuming that if I add it to the dispenser, it will be added at the appropriate time, but I'm not sure.

I've always used dryer sheets. This is the first time I've used liquid fabric softener (weird).
