Execution is a good example of how the sixth commandment can be interpreted. And I don't think slavery was per se ever "OK".

Most of the statements about slavery in the Bible speak to how people are supposed to be fair to each other, and how to handle burdens.
Can you imagine the abolition movement in the United States *without* a foundation in Christianity?
