At some point I'll just stop sending them, but at this point I don't think it's fair to punish, say, my 5 year old niece, because my brother has never had her thank me over the phone.

Things will be different with my kid. :) (my best friend sent him a gift that arrived on Saturday. We were on the phone with her 5 minutes after he opened it, thanking her.)
