About 90% of my Christmas shopping was done on line this year.

I commented to a friend yesterday that there was something missing this year & that I'd realized it was the excitement (if that's the right word) of heading out to stores. I've missed all the decorations, the music, & the atmosphere surrounding Christmas shopping. Granted, I've also missed the mobs of crazy, panicked shoppers.

Here's a tale of two Christmas shipments...

One was with Best Buy. I ordered something on Cyber Monday. I'd updated my address with them previously and did not notice until after the item failed to show that their system had kept my old address and sent it there. Apparently, just changing the address didn't delete the old one (huh?). I sent 3 e-mails and made 2 calls - to no avail. I got e-mail responses promising a reply in 3 days. On both my calls (after long waits) I was hung up on without speaking to anyone. Because I couldn't reach anyone to redirect the package (it was sent that funny UPS/USPS way where UPS can't help and the post office says to contact the shipper to get it redirected) I expected it to go back to Best Buy. It made it from here to somewhere in PA (don't ask me why since it started in TN) but then came back to Covington last week. Tracking has it sitting at the post office, with the instruction to contact the shipper, who won't talk to me. I still haven't gotten an e-mail reply. I can't wait for the bill to come so I can create a ruckus with the credit card company. Maybe that will get Best Buy's attention.

I ended up buying the item in the store for $10 more (it was not available for store pick-up on Cyber Monday but was being sold there a week later - go figure). If I could have gotten this for the same price elsewhere, I would have. As it was I still saved $40.

The other shipping tale just went from OMG to hooray for good customer service. I ordered something on line over the weekend. It wasn't something I was especially looking for, just something I came across and thought, "ooh, this will be perfect". I paid for next day air delivery. Got home today and e-mail said it went ground. I called the place and got profuse apologies and a promise to try to get another one out ASAP. Just got the call that they got FedEx to come back in to pick up my package. So it will be here tomorrow. Best Buy could learn a few things from this place. Like answering the phone.

I bought a lot of stuff this year from amazon. They have a distribution center a couple of towns away. Many packages arrived the next day. I can't wait for same-day drone delivery.

But I will still miss the Christmas atmosphere.
