Agree. I loved the game but I thought for as 'open' as the world is, there was too much 'do this, then do this' gameplay.

There should be a big master list of things that you need for various heists, and when you collect the right parts, Lester calls you. So there was some variability to it.
I forget what version it was in, but I also loved the old master list of cars you have to steal so you were always on the lookout as you drove around.
Also blows my mind that you could do the whole game including heists and it never involves the casino or the racetrack.
