Quarterbacks always get long term deals. It's a salary cap management tool. I don't think it's that hard to understand.

Cutler played very well this year. If the defense was even mediocre that team wins 10-11 games. The bears have literally gone decades without quarterbacks that are beyond serviceable. They aren't that easy to find. He has a very tight relationship and chemistry with his receivers. The offense doesn't need to be messed with. It's the defense they need to figure out now.
