As for the Pope, I definitely believe he has renewed interest (and/or reduced disinterest?) in the Church for some people.

But I wonder to what degree and what lasting impact? Not sure how easy that is measure (or if it's even possible).

Certainly everyone in my family circle is intrigued by him // likes him (we all grew up Catholic, some still practice regularly, many don't but still believe). But (I'm a skeptic/cynic remember) I haven't seen substantive policy change from the Pope. He is, however, focusing on the what I always respected about the Church (charity and caring for the less fortunate) and I have a great respect for that.
