Sorry for dragging my feet on the writing competition idea. Been a bit exhausted lately (and iOS just ate my post on the subject. grr.)

For the word limit, I'm not too sure about 8K-10K ... but I think that's mostly because I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to write anything that length that would be fun to read. Can't really say that I've tried that before, at least not that I can recall. I just did some quick research and a calculation shows that a 10K-word story would work out to approximately 25-30 paperback pages.
Anyway.
I like the idea of publishing the stories after (with some editing, of course). I looked into online publishing services, and it seemed like a run of 100 copies of a paperback (estimated at 100 pages, I think? I forget) would be in the range of $500-$1250. It would also be easy to publish to online stores.
Since the topic here is rather wide, I was thinking that maybe we shouldn't force ourselves into a specific theme. But we could consider it. I'm uncertain.
If we did publish it as a theme-less anthology, maybe we could call it something silly, like:
"Anything and Everything: A Slacker Talk Anthology, Volume 1"
