We eat three meals a day (with recommended small healthy snacks between) because our stomach won't hold food and process it as

needed throughout the day.

It's quite possible to eat way more calories at one meal than you'd need for several days. But the stomach doesn't care, it just processes it and sends it on, then feels empty and prompts you for more food.

Metabolism doesn't regulate the feeling of hunger, an empty stomach does.
