Hobby is on the south side of Houston, must closer to Galveston.

IAH (Bush Intercontinental) is on the north side and you would have to travel through Houston and downtown on 45 (or around Houston on one of the loops if the traffic is as the traffic always is).

Unless doing this on a weekend (and even if doing this on a weekend) go to hobby for Galveston unless it's a significantly cheaper to go to IAH
