In essence, that's what they'll do. Carrie's hotels are extended stay, Candlewood and Staybridge Suites...

People who choose them, choose them for the mini-kitchen where they can cook meals instead of paying $30/plate for room service.

Move up a bit to Holiday Inn and HI Express and the amenities change.

Essentially, people will pick their amenities when they pick their brand.

I speak only from an IHG perspective, but I can't imagine a place like Marriott isn't exactly the same.
