I feel like you're giving such good advice here. I don't need the advice, but I wanted to say that I think you're totally right.

and if mop honestly believes he's the best thing out there (small town etc) then something is wrong with his profile or his presentation.
there *is* an art to online dating. an art to dating in general.
mop needs to present as who he wants to attract: positive, upbeat, charming, silly, brilliant, nerdy, etc. "would I date me?" is what he needs to think.
