I have always been deeply conflicted about this.

Part of my rages at the hypocrisy of a closeted gay supporting anti-gay legislation.

At the same time, I think coming out publicly is a personal choice.

Also, at the same time, I despise hypocrisy. So perhaps the question comes down to "is it possible for a closeted gay person to truly support these anti-gay policies". In other words, if this is really how he feels, then maybe it's not true hypocrisy, even if it is deeply self-loathing?

Bottom line: I don't know.
