public policy, issues of hypocrisy have public relevance. If a candidate running as an environmentalist owned major oil and gas interests, we'd think that was relevant. This is something more personal and private to the individual, but no less relevant to the electorate. I think when you choose to run for public office and influence policy you have to sacrifice some of your right to privacy when it reveals issues of direct relevance to voters.
