that's just a function of how contracts work in the NBA in any year...not cash flow

you can't trade players unless what you're getting back is within a certain percentage salary wise of what you're giving away. I think it's 10%.
When you have these older players like Shaq ($20 mil guaranteed after this year), Jefferson ($30 mil), and Carter ($33 mil) you can't cut them, you'd have to trade them for something. So you always end up with situations where the scrub that never lived up to his deal is worth the same as a real player. like Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown.
