You can actually have a posse for a while. Do that quest, don't take them home, then go rescue Martin, go to the priory and pick up Jauffrey and you have a complete battle squad where none of the 4 can get killed. :)
Did you take my advice and go find Umbra, beat her and keep her sword? It's actually part of the Clavicus Vile daedric shrine quest, but you can get the sword without ever starting the quest. The best thing is, it's about the strongest weapon in the game, it has a built in soul trap and it kills undead as well as people and critters. Then go do the Azura's star daedric quest and you get a permanant refillable grand soul gem for recharging. Her quest is easy, you just kill a bunch of vamps--but it's sad too and I'm not going to tell you why. :)
