And? You can't expect the opposition to find a candidate and mount a campaign that would be at all

effective in much less time than that.
A shorter time frame might capture more of the current dissatisfaction, but at the cost of possibly running a weak opposition candidate or several candidates who end up splitting the opposition vote.
