are you using them in enclosed fixtures?

That's one place where they don't do well. (Also, dinner manufacturers are better than others, as it is with everything). The mercury element of these bulbs is wildly, wildly overblown. You autos have to break hundreds to bulb up a mercury vapor level that was hazardous. Strange that no one complains about this for trifocal fluorescents, which are made *exactly* the same way.
