I feel the most interesting part of this story - about an Olympic medalist want to sell her medal to finance her comeback in 2018 - is the name change

Sure, I imagine it has something to do with marriage, but for a few factors:

- She went from a traditional Francophone name, "Leblanc-Boucher", to... "ENGLISH".

- She already had a hyphenated name, suggesting she was already married, although that could have been the names of her parents. She had a child in 2007 which suggests - but does not require, of course - that she was married.

- In Quebec, not only are you not encouraged to change your name after marriage, you're in fact prohibited from doing so. You have to pursue a regular every day judicial name change to do it.
