well, I have already looked up a lot of stuff on the subject (I was already planning on doing this for a term paper) , . .

and there are some legit scientific / medical things that can explain a lot of the things we ascribe to vampires and vampirism . . . avoidance of garlic, adversity to sunlight, the need for blood ... and some of the cultural stuff / beliefs do go back to Middle Ages Europe and The Plague / Tuberculosis . . . lots of things that were misunderstood or not understood / known about at all even 300 years ago can go a long way to explaining some of the things that were believed back then.
