I don't remember when Claire shot him.
I thought Sylar took him out.
Also, how moronic is Nathan. Though poorly written might be more the case. "Lets give everyone abilities." "Wait, lets remove everyone's abilities."
Step one in fixing the show is probably having him kill himself either on purpose after realizing how much he's messed up, or accidentally in Darwin Award winning fashion.
