We paid $96k for our condo in 1981 and I think the rate was about 16%. First refi was for 12% and then 6%. Both times we also took out some cash.....

Last time I refi'd was at (I think) around 5% for 15 years, paid it off in about 7 and was mortgage free when I retired. Been in the house 33 years in May :)
