That movie is pretty out there, even by today's standards.
That music with the obelisk. The homunculan ape throwing the bone up in the air in slow motion. Whenever you see a space station spinning to classical music, that's 2001...
Oh, and then there's HAL9000 and "Dave." "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."
