this is a guy who can track a fucking squirrel.

and he doesn't strike me as a dude who wallows in self pity when someone he cares about is in trouble.

the screenplay called for:
1. beth being kidnapped under darryl's nose
2. darryl being assimilated into this new group.

it's not too much to ask that they come up with plausible ways to accomplish this without sacrificing the integrity of your characters.
