if the screenplay called for him to track a vehicle, he would.

wallowing in a suicidal self pity is fine, but why did he fight for his life when he was caught? either give up or try to survive. you can't have both.

not running into walkers is actually the most plausible aspect. they wouldn't see or likely hear him at night. even if they did, he would outpace them in minutes. that's always been my point about this show: unless you're in a city, outrunning/outwitting zombies would be child's play. there's no way it would be the death sentence they're making it out to be. people would be *far* more dangerous. which darryl knows.
