It's almost impossible to help someone that won't help themselves though.

I know. A very, very good friend of mine has become a raging alcoholic (he's on the losing end of battling some problems).
I've seen the toll it's taken on his wife and kids, and himself. It really hurts to want to, and try to, help him and fail.
We've shared some pretty shitty experiences, and I think he gets mad at me for getting through them while he hasn't be able to put them behind him... and though I try calling him faithfully, it just goes to voicemail and I never get return calls.
Alcoholism is one of the worst addictions I've seen someone go through. And it sucks, because I like the guy.
