David B2 My limited NYC tourist walking experience is that the basic pace of residents is more than sufficient for exercise purposes

I loved walking in NYC as it seemed to me that people walk with a purpose. Quite the contrast to the rare times you find people on foot in LA. In NYC people are moving and seem to actively dislike tourists meandering around.

So if one could find a route that limited the number of major street crossings, I think that one could walk at an exercise pace without having to make too much of a special effort. The minor crossings everyone seemingly jaywalked so no pace breaking there. It is all paved and concrete sidewalks but it would be at walking pace so the one foot on the ground at all times helps limit the impact
