They seem to be concerned that it's too much setup before the whole war plot takes shape.

Um...yeah, that's how the boos was written. Hell, Winslet's character only gets a slight mention at the beginning and doesn't show up until about 3/4 of the way through the book.

I have the opposite complaint with Hunger Games. They rushed through the beginning of the story in the movie (spoilers) - spamlet Mar 17, 12:40 1
