a 'stereo' is a sound amplifier system with at least two signals to separate speakers.

throwing piles of money means better quality (fidelity) though some can and do go over board in the quest.
IE: bi-amping, since the low notes requires a lot more amp power than the high notes, some use a separate amp for the bass (now its often built into the separate bass speakers) and of course that means another box for the cross-over
extra thick cables for the speaker wires for less resistance
I had a friend who had 3 turn tables and several needle cartidges for various qualities of records, one for the very first time an lp was played on the first turn table.
