Watching Cnet reviews on cars, it hearkens back to the mobile phone days before the iPhone.

"Well, it's got this feature, but it's only half baked. And it doesn't have that feature, like this other car. And we're still looking at functionality from cars released 5 years ago..." etc. etc.

I'm grateful that Apple is getting into in-car systems. That will pretty much set a baseline that is well above all current in-car systems. After that, everything else will be gravy.
