In this case I don't think it would matter because of the success of the books and the knowledge that more movies were coming. I think it would have built a lot more anticipation for movie 2 if they had her going up the tube to the bright lights and then end scene.
I really worry about the last two movies and there being enough to fill the time. If they were going to do 4 anyway, they needn't to follow the books exactly.
