To expand on this thought (book spoils through current release)

In book 1 it's a bit of a throwaway that Ned won't discuss Jon's mother. By book 5 it's clear, though still not confirmed, that Jon's mother is actually Ned's sister and his father is a Targaryen, making Daenerys his aunt.

In book 1 the wolves are just companions for the kids. But by book 5 it's clear that the wolves are avatars for the kids. Both Jon and Bran have "ridden" their dire wolves.

Both those things are strong indicators that Jon being stabbed at the end of the current book won't actually lead to his death. One, it'd make the first point moot. And two, he's got an out to survive in his wolf's body while his human body is healed or even resurrected in the same way Lady Stark's body was.
