As I stated at the end of last season, I believe that a lot of what we have witnessed thus far is a swerve. The petty squabbles of men are nothing compared to the threat of survival for all humanity. The very people vying for the Iron Throne right now will be forced to work together to stave off the undead invaders.
I also expect John Snow to prove to be the true ruler of multiple realms. Nothing about Ned Stark indicated that he would ever cheat on his wife, horrific shrew tho she may be. John is not his son.
