They were great together.
She died.
As I said, the kids knew *all* about that so did not need to hear it.
Six years passed.
And they not only gave him permission, they *told* him to go after Robin.
Lilly knew why Robin was not there. They made the point with Lilly coming out of the bathroom when she was fleeing.
Barney found his bliss. Marshal and Lilly were wildly successful. It was time for Ted and Robin to take a shot at happiness.
