that is totally not fair. having your MIL intentionally do something against your wishes like that is actually a big deal.

it's their child, they made a decision, MIL overruled and took away a surprise that can't be redone.
sure, in a global view, it isn't the end of the world, from a family perspective, it's pretty big.
