Yeah, that's pretty much true. They are typically steamed, so they're not going to have that flavor of a grilled or fried seafood -- nm

Although I have had them broiled, but in those cases they had some kind of crumb or cheese crust on them -- nm

Mussels are eh. The do have a strong flavor and a weird, chewy texture.

They do have their own flavour - especially if they are fresh. Also if they are saltwater, the shells will give off a flavour.

Texture doesn't work for me and the flavor didn't either. And one of the appetizers I tried was at Emeril's flagship restaurant...
