I could be way wrong but literally have not seen the Mountain in a calendar year then he pops up like that. His primary purpose is to defend the Lannisters, and he is specifically Tywin's guard. He killed the sister of the prince as well as the defenseless children. And that is all Dorne has discussed (other than sex) since he has been here. The pieces fit, whether they go that route or not.
