so I have a data analytics dept, right? and they are supposed to analyze and report on my enrollment data.

I have maybe 200 programs these days. every program has a name and a unique record identifier (almost always it's the budget number).
we combined two programs into one (business associates & business bachelors).
we closed the budget number of the one we closed.
we changed the name of the other budget to reflect that it now housed all business UG programs. we did not change the budget number.
my data people called me all up in arms, saying that I was missing giving them data for business assoc and business bach. I told them that we had combined the program into one. "we still don't have data for it!" they said. "and what is this new program "business UG programs??"
after much confusion, it was revealed that my DATA department uses programs' *names,* not their budget number, for data reporting and comparison.
I have no idea why a data analytics department would use a *name,* which is easily typo'd and can have slight variation ("and" vs "&", for instance) rather than a seven digit budget number.
I don't think my data people understand data. and the fact that they copied half of the university on their emails about "you're not giving us the data we need" really pisses me off.
that's all.
