I give Godzilla a good B+. I admire their desire if not their ability to tell a true story but as one review said, "at some point the clothes have to come off." It just took too long to get to Godzilla and then there was too much tease before the fighting started and then it was at night although lit enough so you could easily tell what was happening. But you never say him full on, in day light until the last bit of the movie. But again, I know what they were going for. It was very "Jaws" like. I mean the main character's last name was Brody if you needed more of a hint.
As for ILD - it's my favorite recent Coen Brother's movie upon it's first viewing. Usually it takes several viewings to truly get it. The Coens have 2 themes and 3 methods they use.
The first theme is the Absurdity of Life ("Raising Arizon" and "Fargo") and the second is The Desperation of Life ("Lebowski" and "Inside Llweyn Davis"). Sometimes they demonstrate this theme with humor and sometimes they do it with music. ILD does it with music and I suspect some humor.
It's definitely a call back to their more esoteric story telling. For someone not used to the Coens I would imagine the movie is slow and pointless but it's actually based on Greak Mythology. The reveal at the end is a real surprise. It's absolutely a brilliant bit of movie making I think. I can't wait to see it again but this time not on a plane next to some girl who complains that she hates watching "dumb tv"...
